Literacy:

In Literacy this week we have been learning about similes and metaphors. We had to create a cartoon face and describe it using similes and metaphors.

Maths:

This week in Maths we have been finishing fractions and starting rounding.

History:

In History we have been learning about the Aztecs, we designed and made our own Aztec cities. With cardboard we made the base of the city.

Art

In Art this week we designed are Aztec chest ornaments. Firstly we drew are design on paper, then we cut out the design on cardboard and drew our design on it.

In science this week we have been doing an experiment on which soil has the most air in it out of top soil, sand, compost and clay. We found out that compost has the most air in it.

Bird watching

This week Sycamore took part in the RSPB Birdwatch. We mostly found crows, rook, magpies and common gulls.

On Monday, as you know, we came in late, so our first lesson was maths. We were supposed to do science after art but we did some igloo building instead.

On Tuesday we did spellings and after lunch we did music and P.E. in music we were doing some African music and dances. Then in P.E we were doing some gymnastics.

On Wednesday we started of with maths.

After play we did writing workshop and during it we were writing about the snowman and snowdog.

On Thursday we started in maths. After play we did literacy and in it we were doing irony similes and everything else we’ve learnt. Later we did topic and S.E.A.L.

On Friday we started off with maths and in literacy, after play, we were writing up our favourite poem which we had written.

Art & DT: In Art and DT we had to draw our tile design on our polystyrene tile. We then covered it with paint and pressed it onto our paper. The results were amazing! We’ve now hung them up to enjoy each others brilliant work.

Q. What are you looking forward to most within year 6 and why?

A. I'm mostly looking forward to the Isle of white because I'm  looking forward to going on a holiday with most of my friends!

Science: In science this week we have been working on our new topic. The new topic is Solids, Liquids and Gases. We had several objects and needed to sort them into piles of Gases, Solids and Liquids. We also did another small investigation

where we figured out which statements were about Solids, Liquids or both.

 

Amy did a wonderful show and tell about her Lego and made a wonderful Lego house.

Joe did a  awsume show and told us how he got in to county cricket .

Claudia did a awesome show-and-tell about her love of PIGS! She also told the class about her sport (football)

New Year’s resolutions:

On Tuesday morning we all came up with some new year’s resolutions, either in or out of school. Everyone enjoyed sharing what challenging goals they had set for the New Year.

Subjects we have been learning this week:

ART: In art we were looking at Aztec designs and we have started to come up with our own Aztec tiles.

History: In history this week we looked at the Aztecs and looked at when they were around. We also made our own timelines.

P.E: In P.E we started to have a go at football. We were split into two groups, one for the more skilled players and another for the less skilled players.

Literacy: This week we look at personification and abstract nouns and made our own poems, everyone enjoyed it.

R.E: In R.E we have started looking religious festivals; we started looking at Hindu festivals.

Mon 17th ScScience: Viruses   Iin the morning, before playtime,   we studied viruses,   bacteria and fungi with Miss  Shah and Miss Fraser. It was great   fun! 18th P.E: Gumboot dancing Gumboot (wellies) dancing started when African mines celebrated getting new gumboots or other things to be proud of. We tried gumboot dancing in and it was great fun! In our lesson, we filmed each other and watched it on the big screen! Art and D.T: Mon 17th Our art this week was linked to our science. We were making bread with yeast. It was fun but challenging too! Then, in the afternoon, we got to taste them: they were Brilliant!!! 17th Craft/art: We finished our Christmas cards, made calendars, decorated envelopes and did Christmas activities. 18th Jokes of the week: What do elves learn at school? The elfabet! Riddle of the week: Two children were born at the same time, of the same year, of the same day to the same Mum. Why weren’t they twins? They were triplets! 20th   P.E.:We were plplaying bench    Ball with four teams. 20th Biscuit decorating: We decorated biscuits to eat, using smarties, stars & silver balls. Mrs.Williams and Mrs.Gilder kindly brought them for us. Thank you! Christmas stuff! 18th £2 room: On Tuesday, we went to the £2 room so we can buy some presents for our friends and family. We hope you enjoy the gifts! 19th Craft assembly On Wednesday 19th December, we had our craft assembly. Sycamore (us) showed our 3D cards. Hopefully, you will receive some of these cards, as they are meant for all our loved ones! Another great crafts assembly, hopefully better ones next year! 18th Christmas maths: On Tuesday there was no proper maths, so, as it was near Christmas, we did some Christmas maths. The first task was fitting certain shapes into a present shape. It was very good fun. Task two was Christmas code crackers. We had to add up all the right numbers to make a word. It was really challenging (for those who got onto it)! 17th Viruses: What is it like to know what’s in your body? Eloise:  It’s interesting but scary at the same time. It’s also weird that on a single piece of bacteria, there’s 10,000 viruses. Bread making: Did you enjoy it? Abbie: I really enjoyed choosing the different ingredients to go into our bread. I liked working as a team. What did you learn?    Hannah: I learnt about the effort it takes to make it and shape it to the right size. I really enjoyed it, even if it was a bit of a challenge. They look great! 19th Christmas lunch: How was the Christmas lunch? Jaiyeola: I found it good, the sausage wrapped in bacon was the best. The chocolate cake was epic and I wanted an other one. 18th £2 room: How did the £2 room compare to other years? Nick: It was definitely one of the best years. I really enjoyed choosing from a wide variety of gifts.   Thank you! Thank you for reading the blog. This shall be the last blog before we see you again in 2013! This week in art, we have been finishing  our Christmas cards.  Also, our Christmas decorations came out of the kiln beautifully! 

In P.E, we have been learning the art of gum boot dancing. We also performed a routine to Mrs Heather and Mrs Porter.

This week, UKS2 watched KS1’s performance that were their version of the Christmas nativity. On Thursday morning we watched Acorns 1&2’s  performance asked some people what they thought:

I thought it was very  funny

, but cute at the same time. ( SPECTACULAR!)

I thought it was the best performance that KS1 had ever done!
