Answers for literacy booster homework

It is great to hear that the Year 6's are getting on well with their booster homework and are enjoying using the YouTube links to find answers to any tricky questions in the maths homework.

We thought it would be useful to have the answers for the recent reading questions available, so that you are able to check and discuss their answers at home, if you want to!

Fiction is 'The Holiday' piece which was set on the 8th March.

Poetry is 'Throwing a Tree' which was set today, 15th March.

We will be checking and reviewing homework in our booster sessions but because these lessons are quite fast paced, we won't be marking these in detail as they are just for revision purposes.

Mrs Thornhill was really pleased to see so many of you at Songsters this week.

We are sure that the year 6's are starting to get really excited about going the O2 concert.

Goodbye and Good Luck to all Year 6

It is hard to believe that it’s time to say farewell to you all, but it is a time for reflection, celebration, anticipation and hope.

You have definitely come a long way from the timid new reception students you were seven years ago, to the  wonderful young people you are today

As it comes time to say goodbye and your days at primary school come to an end, I am sure that you will be taking with you many cherished memories and friendships. Remember the highlights of primary school, whether it be your friendships, trips, sports teams,  great times in the classroom or any number of wonderful experiences you would have had at Oakwood Primary School during your time here. In doing this though, remember that if you spend too much time looking at the doors that close behind you, you may miss seeing them open up ahead.

The end of Yr 6 is certainly a significant milestone in your life. It is time to celebrate the wonderful things you have achieved so far in your learning journey and to look ahead to the new adventure that awaits … high school.
Celebrate this milestone with your friends, your family and your school. Be proud of your achievements and what you have learnt, because it’s those things that have helped to shape the person you are today.

 We have loved teaching you this year, and will miss you all terribly - Good luck and dream big!

             GREECE


    This week we have been learning about Greece and created posters about it. We also tried lots of foods such as tomatoes, olives, pitta bread, Tzatziki sauce and feta cheese.

Here are some facts about Greece:

• The main export in Greece is Olives and Olive oil
• The climate is very hot and sunny
• The area of Greece is 50,961 square miles
• The capital of Greece is Athens
• The greek national sport is football
• the population of Greece is about 11 million
• Greece has a very sandy and rocky terrain and very dry
• Greece is a country is the southern part of EUROPE

 


We are working up to making pots out of papier-mache. Once we have made it we will let it dry and paint it orange. We will lightly draw on a design from a myth and then paint it With a fine liner we will outline and draw patterns.

Just year 5'S
This week the year 6's went to the Isle of Wight so that left the year 5's all of the fun! 

MAGICAL MONDAY
On Monday we went on an hour drive to a small village called Aldbury. We explored their village and Tudor houses. They even had a pond shaped like a heart with a little duck in it. After we went to the museum in Tring. It is full of many animals. It was amazing, they had even dressed up flees!

Terrific Tuesday
It was weird not having the year 6's around, but also quite exiting! We started to make a folder about or trip. We learnt where all the city's are and how to use an atlas. We also did art of Historical evidence in Aldbury and Aldbury houses in water colours.  

Wicked Wednesday   
On Wednesday we learnt about map symbols. We also made our own map of a made up village of your choice. We also wrote a description of what it what it was like to be in Aldbury.

Thrilling Thursday
In the morning we went on a trail around Oakwood and filled in a quiz paper. It was on signs and houses. In the afternoon we did P.E for carousel , this week we did a rounder tournament. We got to chose our own team name. The names of the teams were $21, The winning team, #21 and #You just got owned.

Fabulous Friday 
Friday morning we finished of our watercolour pictures. We reflected on our trip to Aldbury and wrote a recount of the day. In the afternoon we played a rounders match with Miss Bick and Miss Fowler.

Costume lists are below and will be coming out right after half term and then we will need them in ASAP on a hanger, covered with a plastic bag with EVERY ITEM NAMED.
