Literacy: we have been learning about speech marks in our writing and we got an extract from George's Marvellous Medicine.  We have also been thinking about persuasive techniques. 
Maths: In maths we have been learning about data handling.  We made a line graph about running a bath.  
Sports person of the week: Josh  for excellent sportsmanship.

ICT: in ict we have been creating our own music and then we edited it some people sang some people were doing reports on sports. 
P.E. in p.e. this week we have been doing hockey first we learnt how to hold the stick with a demo from Ollie. Then we got to use the pucks, and we had to dribble with it close to our stick otherwise Mrs. Gilder would come and take the puck away.
Science: in science this week we made string telephones and then we touched the string and it would make the sound go all funny. We had to have it tight otherwise it wouldn’t work.

Literacy in our literacy lesson we have been writing a paragraph showing not telling.
We watched a small clip based on Nike. After we watched the clip we talked about how it showed and not told.
We also learnt some Kung Fu punctuation. Ha

 In our maths lesson we have been learning how to represent data. We drew a pictogram and wrote down 9 different author’s .e.g. JK Rowling and Michael Morpurgo. After that, we drew down how many books there were. Also we have been learning how to use a bar chart.

Art
In art, we designed our own posters based on ww2 .e.g. Dig for Victory.
First we drew a rough copy of our poster. Our poster was based on spies, food, Women’s land army or blackouts.


Linconsfelid Trip
 On Tuesday UKS2 went to Linconsfield. We had to imagine that we were evacuated we had a number of activities to do.1 gardening. Gardening, we had to imagine there was fire on the roof top. We then split into 2 groups and had a race with a hosepipe. All of a sudden, the air aide siren went off, we had to rush to the Anderson shelter as quick as possible. 2 school. When we were in the school we had a very strict teacher called Miss Barber, if we were naughty she would hit us with a ruler. We made our own identity card also she would talk about what schools would have been like during WW2.3 Blitz. After the school, our group were next to go to the Blitz. Everyone said they had real rats but actually they didn’t. The man was an actual evacuee when he was young.  4 museum. In the museum we got to hold a real gun which was very heavy also we got to hold a backpack a man called stain came in and talked abut ww2 and what it was like to be a solider. He also told us how hard and difficult it was fighting because there would be Germans everywhere. 5 house. One of the activities was the house there was a lady called Anne she would say that she wouldn’t miss anything if we were being naughty she would have a tape to cover our mouths. Anne taught us how they would make clothes in the ww2 it was great fun.  6 cinema. In the cinema, we watched a clip of how to be evacuated. There were short clips of different subjects on how to be evacuated. Finally there was a small gift shop I brought a key ring and a blow ball set. Everybody enjoyed their day!

Literacy- This week we played a game called Kung Fu punctuation.  We looked at some adverts and thought about why they were persuasive. 

Maths- This week we learnt about shapes. It was really fun!

Pe: We learnt a new game: Shuffle ball.  

Science- We learnt that sound travels in sound waves.  When something makes a noise air particles vibrate, your ear  picks this up and then your brain then works out what made it. Fascinating!

Audience with... Cara showed us the amazing doll's house she has made.  Will shared an awesome book about WW2.

This week we had our evacuation day.  It was fun and a good experience.  Milking the cow was a yucky experience.  We dressed up and enjoyed polishing shoes.

In science we learned about the ear.

On Friday we did our sharing assembly.  Everyone loved it!

In literacy we have been learning about the gunpowder plot.  We did a acrostic poem and started writing a biography on Anne Frank.  

We had fun in our PE lesson this week.  We  did country dancing from WW2.  Everyone had a smile on their face and we felt exhausted afterwards.  

In history we have been studying food rationing from WW2  and we got to taste a navy style hot chocolate called kye.

We have been practising our Music Hall Sharing assembly.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents next Friday.  

Thanks To Reece who brought in a DVD he made with Ashley, Jack and Louis - it was very good.

Well done to the fottballers, netballers and those who did the cross country.

Art – We all made wonderful Christmas cards for parents to buy -they were outstanding.
Literacy- Anne Frank- We learnt about the diary of Anne Frank  it was amazing.  We did a description of the “Secret Annex” it was amazing so we all wrote a description.
Maths –We all did wonderful factors and also a “WELL DONE” to Kain for achieving level 8 in cracking times tables and now is on level 9!!! PS: That’s 8 weeks in a row I got it!!!
History-WWII-Ashley’s Granny co me in and talk about what happened in WWII it was amazing and she gave us the spy joke!!! 


Sports person of the week- Jack Percy for winning 1st place in boys cross country tryouts!!!

Jess did a presentation on her holiday in the Alps. 
Will and Millie did a presentation on their football teams and included a quiz.

Charlie brought in some disco lights and a soldiers dog collar. 
Millie and Megan had been busy baking for their audience with and gave everyone in the class a cake and some chocolate - MAGIC MOMENTS!

Art – Christmas card designs and calendar designs
We made the Christmas card designs by using water colors over the card to make the back ground look nice like Christmas time .
We cut out pieces of  paper and made them look like hills and then we stuck them on .Our calendar designs were made by using oil pastels to color the fields .We drew a little town on the hill side.

Literacy The Highway man
We acted out the story and then wrote a another verse to the poem.  



Maths For maths this week we used numicon to find factors of 15, 17, 2 ect. We found there are prime numbers they are numbers that can only be split into 1 and it self.

PE
We did a Boot Camp.  "It was Ok, very hard work.  I was really tired afterwards." Reece

We were making models of barrage balloons. We also are making a drawing of a child who was evacuated.
  
We have learning a songs about world war 2 and music halls.

Literacy
We have been learning about the highwayman poem in literacy. We have also been writing the story in the characters point of view.

Science 

We are looked at the eye and how it works .  We looked at what happens to our pupils when the light goes off.  

Friday afternoon
Year 6 went to Beaumont for a languages X factor.  We saw lots of last year's year sixes there. 
Year did some gardening.  We pulled out lots of weeds and harvested some beetroot, apples, a marrow and courgette.

Art – In art we had to paint a picture for our calendars. We had to do some printing to. We started by painting the background  then we made some silhouettes out of polystyrene . So we could paint them with black paint and printed them on our background. 
Literacy: In our literacy we had to do a diary entry on when we first meet the highwayman, we also wrote stories from a characters point of view. 
Maths  : In Mrs. Gilder & Mrs. Williams group we were working on our more than and less than symbols, also we were working on our decimals. In Mr. Edwards group we were also doing decimals but we were multiplying and rounding them.
History : In history we had to write another diary entry on when first hear Neville Chamberlain announce that we were at war with Germany.
Sports person of the week: Is Jack because of his excellent attitude towards his football.

Spelling – we did our horrible hundred ,we learned some new words like filly ,foal  exemplary, lavish, foe, conceal and obliterated.
Art We made a Blitz inspired front cover.  We looked at examples of sunsets and silhouettes. Next we used pastels to create a sunset background using a limited colour palette. The pastels were fun to use but VERY messy!  Black sugar paper was used to make a city skyline silhouette. We learned about search lights and added these to our final picture.
Literacy – In literacy we have been reading The Highwayman.  This is a great poem, but quite sad.  
Maths – In maths we started Cracking Timestables, we had a sheet and we had to complete it in 3 minutes. After that we put very big numbers in order and compared them.
History – In history we have been learning about world war 2. We looked at a map to find which countries were in the war.

We Will Rock You (All Week):
On Monday, we had our first proper run-through. We all did act 1 before break and act 2 after Lunch. Before lunch, the year 6’s did an extra rehearsal. It was the first time Mrs Gilder and the year 5’s and saw the
whole thing!

Lauren: Very well! I’m really enjoying it!

Lauren: I really like ‘another one bites the dust’ with Phoebe and the  yuppies.

Celebrations:
This Saturday the girls 6-a-side football team are playing at Fleetville. We will be playing a total of three matches throughout the day.

Brambles opening ceremony (Last Friday):
Last week you will all know that the mayor came to officially open the outdoor learning classroom – Brambles!!!
We were all very excited about having a new place to learn without being stuck in a stuffy classroom during the Summer term. On Friday, there were lots of different performances from:

·       Acorns dance routine
·       Songbirds 
·       UKS2 (A taster of We Will Rock You!)

This week Finlay, Jason and Scott were working on the blog.  There was lots going on.  On Friday Year 5 took part in the K'nex challenge.  They designed and made models for fairground rides.  In the first group Lauren and Lucy won - it was a close competition! 






We have started reahersing for WWRY - it sounds really good!
The people taking part in District Sports did really well and we all enjoyed LKS2 Enterprise - the cakes, biscuits and icecream were delicious!

This weeks blogger is Nick Powdrell

On Monday, we split into groups of 22 and 23 to start our week without the year sixes.

On Tuesday, we went on a walk around St.Albans in groups of 9 and answered a few sheets of questions on our way round.

On Wednesday, we had our main trip to Aldbury and Tring. Aldbury was a nice village but unfortunatly the weather wasn't as good as we thought. In the natural museum, we toured around it for a while and to finish of we learnt about skeletons.

On Thursday, we went on google maps to see differences between Aldbury and St Albans and started drawing and painting a house from Aldbury.

On Friday, we were finishing off work from the rest of the week and painted our pictures of houses in Aldbury in water colours.

Joke of the week: Why are babies so good football? Because they dribble a lot.

Science: In science we have been writing stories for are volcanoes
that we have been making with paper mashie. Once we made our stories we read them to Beech class and made them real life with our crops and made are volcanoes explode.

Maths: In maths we have been solving maths problems it was quite a challenge but very fun.

P.E: In P.E we have been doing district sport trials, well done to the people who triad or got in!

Pebble treat: This week we had are pebble treat. We played football, Para shoot, netball and golf.

Blue sky play: Also this week we had blue sky play and that meant we had fifteen minutes extra play.

Have a good half term everyone, but keep practising your work.

In science we did a materials test the materials were

·       Instant coffee
·       Vitamin c tablet

 We put them in 15ml of water and a Petri dish then we put the materials in the Petri dish and looked at the reaction.

In art we have been making mountains out of papier-mache, now we have to paint them and decorate them.
