Mon 17th
ScScience: Viruses
  Iin the morning, before playtime,
  we studied viruses,
  bacteria and fungi with Miss  Shah and Miss Fraser. It was great
  fun!
18th
P.E: Gumboot dancing
Gumboot (wellies) dancing started when African mines celebrated getting new gumboots or other things to be proud of. We tried gumboot dancing in and it was great fun!
In our lesson, we filmed each other and watched it on the big screen!

Mon 17th

Our art this week was linked to our science. We were making bread with yeast. It was fun
but challenging too!
Then, in the afternoon, we got to taste them: they were
Brilliant!!!

Craft/art:
We finished our Christmas cards, made calendars, decorated envelopes and did Christmas activities.

Two children were born at the same time, of the same year, of the same day to the same Mum. Why werent they twins?

They were triplets!

  P.E.:We were plplaying bench   
Ball with four teams.

Biscuit decorating: We decorated biscuits to eat, using smarties, stars & silver balls.
Mrs.Williams and Mrs.Gilder kindly brought them for us. Thank you!
Christmas stuff!
18th
£2 room:
On Tuesday, we went to the £2 room so we can buy some presents for our friends and family. We hope you enjoy the gifts!
19th
Craft assembly

On Wednesday 19th December, we had our craft assembly. Sycamore (us) showed our 3D cards. Hopefully, you will receive some of these cards, as they are meant for all our loved ones! Another great crafts assembly, hopefully better ones next year!

Christmas maths:

On Tuesday there was no proper maths, so, as it was near Christmas, we did some Christmas maths. The first task was fitting certain shapes into a present shape. It was very good fun. Task two was Christmas code crackers. We had to add up all the right numbers to make a word. It was really challenging (for those who got onto it)!

Viruses:

What is it like to know whats in your body?
Eloise:  Its interesting but scary at the same time. Its also weird that on a single piece of bacteria, theres 10,000 viruses.

Bread making:

Did you enjoy it?
Abbie: I really enjoyed choosing the different ingredients to go into our bread. I liked working as a team.

What did you learn?
   Hannah: I learnt about the effort it takes to make it and shape it to the right size. I really enjoyed it, even if it was a bit of a challenge. They look great!

Christmas lunch:

How was the Christmas lunch?

Jaiyeola: I found it good, the sausage wrapped in bacon was the best. The chocolate cake was epic and I wanted an other one.

£2 room:

How did the £2 room compare to other years?
Nick: It was definitely one of the best years. I really enjoyed choosing from a wide variety of gifts.

Welcome to this week's blog for Sycamore. 

This week's

In science we have been looking at micro organisms. We did an experiment with yeast in test tubes -To see which environment was best for yeast to grow in. 
We will be making bread with a secret ingredient that we choose by ourselves.  Remember your ingredients on Monday!

This week in art, we have been finishing  our Christmas cards.  Also, our Christmas decorations came out of the kiln beautifully! 

In P.E, we have been learning the art of gum boot dancing. We also performed a routine to Mrs Heather and Mrs Porter.

This week, UKS2 watched KS1s performance that were their version of the Christmas nativity. On Thursday morning we watched Acorns 1&2s  performance asked some people what they thought:
Eloise:
I thought it was very  funny
, but cute at the same time. ( SPECTACULAR!)
Holly:
I thought it was the best performance that KS1 had ever done!

I think it was very well thought out and the humour was kept at a good level. I really enjoyed it!

I thought songsters did a very good job. All of songs were awesome and it really got me in the Christmas spirit!

Science

In science we have been looking at micro-organisms. In our lessons we have been researching bacteria on our hands and how quick mould grows on bread.

This is Day 7 of our test:

Brown bread
Number 1 is not mouldy
Number 2 has a dot of mould
Number 3 is not mouldy                                                           
White bread
(Jaiyeola’s hand) has nothing on it
(Hall floor) is very very mouldy
(Jacob’s hand) has dots of mould

Literacy
We have been looking at the story of Ali Baba and the forty thieves in morgiana's point of view. We were writing it in 1st person. We’ve also been looking at stories from other cultures.

Literacy : In literacy we are doing stories from different cultures.

Topic:In Topic we are learning about the     importance of symbols for different religions.


 
Science: In science our latest experiment was seeing which bread goes mouldy first - white or brown. To do this we had to make sure it was a fair test. 

 
Maths: In maths we are doing lots of different investigations, such as weighing, capacity and length.

PE: In P.E we have started hockey .

                 This week’s bloggers are Ethan and Oviyan


As you know on Thursday Upper Key Stage 2 did their sharing assembly.
The assembly was a great success. We learnt a lot about British history. There were 2 bands in our play Queen and Beatles.





Following this we held the moonscape challenge. The overall design winner was Jason. Then all classes put their moon buggies to the ultimate test. The winner from Sycamore was Raj with a hard battle from Ethan. The winner from Rowan was Hafsah and Willow's winner was Oscar. The winner of the full thing was Hafsah followed by Oscar and Raj.




 LITERACY
In literacy we have been studying fairy tales from different countries like Ali Baba  and writing a recount of our  assembly. In Thursday’s literacy lesson we had to guess which country some words came from. The words which most surprised people were; shampoo from India and candy from Arabic.
 



MATHS
In maths we have been drawing and interpeting pie charts, weighing and lengths.

This week's bloggers were Katie and Holly

Science: In science we were learning about why the moon appears to change shape . We found out that it appears to change shape because the sun reflects on different parts the moon..

Maths:In maths we are doing data and bar graphs. We did a tally chart  asking everyone what cracking times table level they are on. The majority of the people were on level five.

Art: In art we did Christmas cards in 3D.
In the cards we noticed the different levels of drawing!

Topic:In topic we have been doing Britain since  1948-2000 and started doing our assembly with Rowan and Willow.

P.E: In P.E we split in to 4 groups and did a dance routine to thriller.

Children in need:As a class we raised £34.60 just for dressing up! At school we dressed up in spots.


 For the Talent competition we had a very high standard of entries.  Well done Natasha, Eloise, Joe and Billy, Ethan, Nick and Jaiyeola, Grace and Claudia who went on to the final. 





 
In our sharing assembly we are doing a play with Willow and Rowan. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
